• What is a home warranty?
A home warranty is a service contract, normally for one year, which helps protect homeowners against the cost of unexpected covered repairs or replacement of their major systems and appliances that break down due to normal wear and tear.

• I hold homeowners insurance. Why do I need a home warranty?
Your homeowner’s insurance is hazard insurance, and covers items damaged in fires, by water, by wind or other covered events. A home warranty repairs or replaces items that break down on their own through normal wear and tear.

• Does it matter how old my home is?
No, the age of your house does not matter. We will still cover the systems and appliances within the home regardless of age.

• Do I need a home inspection in order to enroll?
No, a home inspection is not required as a condition to enroll in a Home Warranty plan.

• Can I enroll a home warranty plan if I am not in a real estate transaction?
Yes, you can purchase a Home Warranty during homeownership. You do not have to be involved in a real estate transaction of any kind.

• When does coverage begin and when does it end?
Coverage for your home's major systems and appliances begins 30 days after you sign up with NHP, and the coverage lasts for one year.

• Can I get my coverage started earlier?
If you are able to prove prior coverage through another company, NHP will be able to start your new NHP coverage when your old coverage expires.

• If I have a concern with a covered system, how do I request service?
Make one toll-free call to our Customer Service Center at 1.800.608.6097. We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

• Who handles the repairs?
National Home Protection maintains a nationwide network of local, qualified independent service contractors to serve you. The independent contractors we use have been carefully screened and meet our stringent service standards. We always follow up on all service requests to ensure the highest quality of service is achieved.

• Do I pay a service fee for each visit?
Yes. Each time a service technician comes to your home to repair or replace an appliance or system an economical service fee of $60 is due regardless of the actual expense. In addition, there is no limit to the number of covered repairs we'll pay for.

• Can I buy a warranty from the manufacturer rather than a home warranty company?
You could, but it would cost you much more. Various manufacturer warranties offer coverage on their own particular system or appliance. You would have to buy individual warranties from several different companies to cover all of your appliances. This could cost you up to $2,500 or more per year, and would involve allot of paperwork. And that still wouldn't cover your major home systems, such as plumbing, electrical, heating, and more – items that a National Home Protection Home Warranty includes. The benefit of covering your major home systems and appliances through a National Home Protection Home Warranty is that you receive coverage with one plan, one low premium, and one number to call for service.

• Can I renew my home warranty contract?
The plan may be renewable. In that event, you will be notified of the prevailing rate and terms of renewal before your contract ends
